RECREATIONAL CATEGORY
In 2008, there were 32,938 permitted Recreational boats on the East coast targeting School and Giant Bluefin Tuna for Recreation. Primary tackle is rod and reel. Recreational fishermen fall under a voluntarily reporting quota. Retention and size limits are set annually by NMFS. In 2008, Recreational Category fishermen harvested 10,745 School, Large School and Small Medium Bluefin Tuna. This harvest resulted in a 3,885 overage of Large School/Small Medium fish and underage of 3,536 School fish.
